Our  Volunteers are critical to services here at Willow Burn hospice, whether they :

  • support services such as our day hospice
  •  raise funds in our shops and tea bar

Willow Burn Volunteers – we  could not do such wonderful work without people like you!

Each Willow Burn Volunteer is individual and special -  sharing interests, skills and knowledge in their own unique way.  They support the whole team and their dedication to our patients and their families and carers is humbling.

Want to know more about being a Willow Burn Volunteer?

So that’s all we have to tell you about how wonderful Volunteering for Willow Burn Hospice can be but don’t take our word for it, why not read some stories and testimonials from our Volunteers:

Wendy's Story

"After 11 years working with people with learning disabilities – some of whom had challenging behaviours, I felt I had done all I could in that role and wondered how I could bring something different to them. I always had been interested in beauty and holistic treatments, so I decided to qualify as a therapist, knowing the sense of well being this could bring to people with difficulties, disabilities and illness.

While studying, I decided to do some volunteering to build my experience. After doing a bit of fundraising on the side following a personal experience, I decided where better than my local hospice – Willow Burn. Initially I had thought I would offer treatments to patients who had disabilities or illnesses, I actually treated the volunteers and clinical team. I realised that those people also had a need for theraputic treatments because they were giving so much to the people who needed care. Without them and their expertise, where would we be? They’re dedication and heart is second to none.

Now I am fully qualified, I am in the process of setting up my own business Lotus Beauty and Holistics. This is a mobile service and by visiting people at home, I can offer luxurious treatments at a time that suits them where they can truly relax and unwind. While the services will be available to everybody, I am passionate about bringing my treatments to people who have an illness, mobility problems, disabilities and challenging behaviours (with GP permissions).

I am so proud to be a volunteer for Willow Burn, it has built my confidence while training but it has also given me an insight into the wonderful work they do and how much the volunteers and staff deliver. I feel privileged to be part of something so special and hope to continue volunteering with Willow Burn way into the future."
