GREAT NORTH RUN RUNNER RAISE £12,000
RUNNER NEWS
Great North Fun for All 2011 (& 2012)
As the last bits of sponsorship money trickle into the hospice, we’d like to say a great big thank you to everyone who participated in the Great North Run 2011 and helped raise nearly £12,000 for us. As always, we have been overwhelmed by the passion and dedication shown by dozens of individuals who risked ‘life and limb’ to take part in this iconic event - now known to be the biggest of its kind world-wide. The feedback has been tremendous and we have been so impressed with many of the times our runners have achieved, but have also ‘laughed and ooooohed and aaaaahed for hours on end, over the stories we’ve been told.
Last year we had a great cross-section of runners, from complete novices, who struggled with their training and will ‘never do it again’ to those who are seasoned runners who take the whole thing a bit more seriously (and can’t wait for the next one!). To all of you, we want to say we can’t thank you enough. Your commitment and generosity of spirit are beyond compare.
Whilst on the subject, all of the staff, visitors, volunteers and patients here at Willow Burn would like to wish everyone running in the 2012 event, the best of luck with their training and much fortitude in collecting sponsorship for the hospice. At the moment we have 45 places which are shortly to be allocated to past runners and other supporters of the hospice, but if you are interested in running for us, please let us know as we have a waiting list and may be successful in getting additional places around about July time. The criteria for obtaining a place are that the runner pays £48 entry fee and promises to raise a minimum amount of £250 in sponsorship. We provide running vests, sponsorship forms and help to publicise your participation.
If you are interested please contact Sue Fox, Community Fundraising Officer on (01207) 523295.
Just Can’t Stop Running!
Two of Willow Burn’s committed supporters just cannot wait for the Great North Run and will be running in other events in the near future to raise vital funds for us.
Stanley Taxis’ Andrew Scott is choosing (mad, mad, mad!) to run in the Paris Marathon on 15th April, this year and Jamie Graham has secured a place in the Brass Monkey Half Marathon in York, to be held in late January. You can support either or both of these heroic individuals and help them reach their target amount by pledging a donation on either of their personal JustGiving pages at www.justgiving.com
