Willow Burn proudly announces its latest retail venture
The Willow Burn book shop opened its doors on Monday 26th April 2010 and has received great feedback from the community and supporters as it is the only book shop in Consett.
The shop was opened by Chris Foote-Wood a local author who wrote 'The Derwentside Story' and generously donated some proceeds from its first publication. Chris has maintained links with Willow Burn and was keen to get involved in the launch of this new venture. The opening took place in a busy period for Chris in the run up to the General Election but that didn't stop him turning out for Willow Burn and championing our cause. Chris generously donated 100 soft back copies of 'The Derwentside Story' which are currently on sale in the shop.
Local artist, Alex Clark is also supporting the book shop with a supply of her popular range of cards.
The most unique feature of the Willow Burn book shop is that it is staffed purely by volunteers, many of whom have been with Willow Burn for many years not least Madge Ward who is managing the shop having spent some seventeen years volunteering for Willow Burn.
Willow Burn has created a comfortable and welcoming environment where the community and supporters can rest their weary legs on a soft sofa with a cup of coffee. Willow Burn is keen to create a community hub in the centre of Consett where the public can find out about the services offered at the Hospice and also any fundraising events taking place for Willow Burn.
The Willow Burn book shop is open:
Monday and Tuesday 10am until 4pm
Wednesday 10am until 1pm
Thursday and Friday 10am until 4pm
Saturday 10am until 1pm
