Staff from a care home braved the election day rain to go on a sponsored walk in fancy dress for their local Hospice, Willow Burn. The employees of Westerleigh Residential Home in Scott Street, Stanley strode out for Willow Burn. Around twenty of them donned costumes everything from a red Indian to a bumble bee then marched on the seven miles between the residential home in Stanley to Willow Burn in Lanchester. Alice Phillips, the homes Social Life Facilitator explained that sponsorship has come from family, friends and residents themselves. The walkers carried collection buckets and even visited Stanley market in a bid to raise as much money as possible.

Alice explained 'we have buddied with Willow Burn and try to do regular things to support the Hospice, whilst we were soaking wet and tired on the day we thoroughly enjoyed the walk and we might even do it again. The response from the public and drivers tooting their horns really kept our spirits up'.

Alice and the team hope to raise around £1000.00 for Willow Burn from this event.
