Consett Community Sports College"Tucks in" for Willow Burn
Two enterprising young students, Jenna Dodds and Shannon Nicholson, took up the challenge to 'make your mark with a tenner' during April and decided that all profits should go to their local Hospice, Willow Burn.
Jenna and Shannon set up a tuck shop with only £10.00 to spend on stock and over the course of a month turned this into a whopping £200.00! Not only did they sell sweets from the tuck shop but they actively baked healthy option cakes the recipes were supplied by Betty Nicholson and a regular stock run to replenish the sweets was selflessly carried out by Jenna's Dad, Paul.
Their idea proved so popular that crowd control was nearly necessary so much was the demand for the homemade cakes and sweets.
Both girls were aware of the good work carried out by Willow Burn as both have had family members who have needed the services there, so choosing Willow Burn as their charity of choice was an easy decision.
When Fundraising and Marketing Manager, Margaret Toberty, attended the college to receive the donation she not only walked away with a cheque for £200.00 but also a delicious handmade fairy cake to enjoy with a cup of tea!
