A Proud Moment for Willow Burn Hospice Trustee Nigel Cook
Nigel Cook, aged 44 from Consett took part in the Olympic Torch bearing relay on Saturday 16th June 2012. Nigel is the Managing Director of Elddis Transport in Consett, Co Durham.
His wife Victoria nominated Nigel to take part as follows:
‘My husband is a trustee of Willowburn hospice in Lanchester, Co. Durham. He decided last year to fund raise for them as they are trying to gain enough funds to build a new hospice. Over the last 10 months, he has run 10 half marathons in 10 different countries with an aim to raise £10000. He actually ended up raising an amazing £23,000. He did an amazing job, running in places like Morocco and also inside the Arctic Circle in Norway’.
During the event Nigel was supported by friends, family and many other well wishers who lined the streets of Consett. The Blackhill Bounders (Nigel’s running club) also proudly ran behind the procession wearing their black and yellow running attire. It was a magnificent spectacle and afterwards Nigel commented that ‘bearing the Olympic Torch is one of the proudest moments of my life, it is up there with getting married to Victoria and having my two beautiful children. It was a truly amazing day and one that I will never forget’.
Helen Mills - Chief Executive Willow Burn Hospice said ‘we were all delighted when we heard the news that Nigel was going to take part in the Olympic Torch bearing relay. He is a truly inspirational character and has given so much to Willow Burn Hospice both in terms of his fundraising efforts and as a valued member of the Board of Trustees’.
