** Kilimanjaro Update From Emma Vinton **
Hello Quantum!! Due to ill health 3 of the team didn’t make it to the summit this morning- 2 trying but having to turn back to camp. We are lead to believe the 4 made it to Stella Point and completed the challenge.
However our chief guide has informed us that they are sending porters up to meet them due to further sickness.
We will drop down today to Millennium Camp where I am sure we will all start to feel better xx Nicola Irving
Received Friday 6pm (Due to signal issues)
Arrived at the gate! We have brought the British weather with us and it is cloudy!! We saw a couple of monkeys (not including Pete and Dan) Spirits are good, We are all a little nervous in anticipation but ready to start x
Received Friday 6pm
We have all made it to camp following day 2 trek. The pace has been slow and steady and we are now at 3800 meters. You can tell the difference in altitude and there have been a few bad heads. However, spirits are good and we are ready for a hot meal and a good night’s sleep x
Received Saturday 5.30pm
Day 3 trekking to Barranco camp. Difficult day due to the altitude starting to take its hold, most of us are affected and this had made the day slow and long, we did not get to camp until well after day. Hopefully with a little sleep we will be better tomorrow. X
Received Sunday 6pm
Safely arrived at Karangu camp on day 4. The team are experiencing ups and downs but the guides have been fab in support. Barranco wall was interesting and challenging – an actual climb in most places! However, we have all just enjoyed chips at almost 4000 meters! X
Any contribution large or small will be greatly appreciated and go a long way in helping the day-to-day running of the hospice, allowing Willow Burn staff to support those coping with a life-limiting illness free of charge.
