FAQ
Show/Hide Can I stay for a long time?
For many patients, once the distressing symptoms are under control, we start to plan the patient's discharge, with the patient and family being fully involved. Occasionally, the home circumstances may be difficult and, should this be the case, our Social Care Team may become involved to consider alternatives such as a Nursing Home.
Show/Hide Do you have to have cancer to receive Hospice care?
Hospice care is available to anyone with a life limiting illness regardless of diagnosis e.g. Motor neurone disease, end stage heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Show/Hide Do you have to be religious to go there?
The word 'hospice' was first used from the 4th century when Christian orders welcomed travellers, the sick and those in many kinds of need. The modern day Hospice welcomes patients from multi faiths or no faith. Religion is not a criterion for care.
Show/Hide Does everyone die there?
Often, people think that when you are admitted to the Hospice you will not come out. Over 70% of our patients do go home again, to the care of our Community team, the GP and District Nursing staff. Is Willow Burn a sad place?
We do have sad times but you will often hear laughter in the Hospice as we enjoy times with our patients and families.
