Lambton Challenge in partnership with Sunderland Foundation of Light

Lambton Estate, Chester Le Street (by courtesy of Lord Durham)

Originated by way of a gift from Sir Tom Cowie and now self-sustaining and in its third year, this fabulous run is set against the backdrop of Lambton Castle and the beautiful grounds that surround it.  The event constitutes two runs – one a 10k undulating, multi-terrain, more competitive adult event, and the second a flatter 3k family run accommodating all kinds of mobility’s, ages and experiences. Entry into both events is £10 and alongside this, we respectfully request that a pledge be made to raise a minimum sponsorship target of £30.  Further information and entry into both events can be found at http://events.runbritain.com/events/event/lambton-run/2013-06-23/

Willow Burn Summer Fair: Saturday 13th July; 1-4pm

Venue:  Hospice Garden or St Bede’s if wet

Admission 50p

One of our most popular signature events offering the opportunity for patients, visitors, volunteers, avid supporters and staff to come together to enjoy a relaxing few hours of friendship in support of the hospice.  With background entertainment, our Summer Fair makes the perfect event to pick up a bargain, buy an unusual gift from our craft stall, get the pick of the best home-made cakes and pies you will ever see, thumb through nearly new books, relax with a cuppa and a piece of cake, let the kids loose in our Kids Korner and get involved with our raffle and tombola.  Come along and join in the fun or help us raise money by selling Summer Raffle tickets to your community group.  For further information contact Ian Bowley.

There is limited parking at the hospice but a continuous shuttle bus service will run from Lanchester to Willow Burn from 12.45pm onwards - last return to Lanchester will be 4.15pm.

Sponsored Family Walk and Fun Session.

Sunday 18th August; Individuals £10 or £20 for the whole family

(minimum sponsorship target of £30 for individuals/£50 for families)

Meet at the Kings Head, Lanchester at 2pm

As the school summer holidays start to disappear into the autumn mists, our sponsored walk provides an opportunity for the whole family to reflect as one unit whilst raising money for the hospice.  The route isn’t too long – just a 3 mile circular and it’s on the flat meaning you can bring pushchairs and wheel chairs along.  When we say ‘family’ we also mean ‘community families’ – sheltered housing, people with a disability, or anyone in need of fresh air and a ‘lovely day out’.  The walk ends with a play session for the kids and a chance for adults to sit and chat. Refreshments and merchandise will be on sale.

World Hospice & Palliative Care Day & Voices for Hospices

This event contributes to the international sharing of the vision to raise awareness and understanding of the medical, social, practical and spiritual needs of people living with a life limiting illness and their families. It also seeks to raise funds in support of hospice and palliative care services. Details of Willow Burn’s involvement will be advertised nearer the time.

Tree of Remembrance

Thursday 28th November – Tuesday 24th December

Venue, Matalan foyer, Consett, Willow Burn Hospice, Maiden Law, other sites to be confirmed

Opening times: 10am – 6pm

Our Tree of Remembrance provides the perfect way to commemorate and/or celebrate the life of a family member or friend at a time of year when we feel loss so much.  Beautifully striking but lifeless when first erected, as the tree’s bare branches begin to embrace the card baubles with their personal messages in memory of loved ones, it becomes overwhelmingly symbolic of the outpouring of love, closeness and warmth felt by hundreds of like-minded individuals.  A suggested donation of £2 can be made in support of the hospice.

Santa Run: Sponsored event run annually throughout December.

For schools, nurseries, and children’s out of school sessions:  Create an indoor route – around the hall or through school corridors, dipping in and out of classrooms to help raise money for Willow Burn.  This is a sponsored event with a minimum sponsorship target of £10.  Children will receive Santa hats to run in, and certificates of merit on completion of the run.

Light Up A Life (LUAL) Service

Sunday 8th December at 3pm

St Bede’s RC School Hall

All welcome.
