You Can Do It Too!!

Whether it's a coffee morning, a raffle, a garage sale, a sponsored walk or run, car boot sale, or full disco or party night - anyone can raise money for Willow Burn.  It's easy!  All you need is the drive and commitment that leads all kinds of people, from all walks of life, all year through, along the fundraising path of success in support of Willow Burn.

No matter how small or large the final figure raised - we really do need every penny.  Collection boxes, buckets, sponsorship forms, letters of introduction...to have a chat about how we can help get you started , telephone (01207) 523295, or e mail: sfox@willowburnhospice.org.uk

A Spring Stroll

It was a small (but select) group that met at Demesne Car Park in Wolsingham on Sunday 25th March, to participate in Phil Veitch's 'SPRING STROLL'.  Phil said he'd put an order in for good weather, the night before, and it couldn't have been better!

With fabulous blue skies, beautiful countryside and the  best of company (including Bobby the Bedlington Terrier, and Elsa the Cocker Spaniel - both young pups), led by Phil, the group made up of Willow Burn staff, interested walkers, and supporters of the hospice, made their way up a challenging climb before walking across a stretch of flat high ground with far reaching views on every side.  The path then descended to Tunstall Reservoir with a final stretch that took in the other side of the valley ending back at the car park.

Everyone involved commented on it being a fantastic way to spend a Sunday, maybe we can persuade Phil to try another one, at some point!

Thank you so much to everyone who took part - the event is still bringing money in, the total at the moment being £270.

Jubilee Jamboree

Many thanks to our fantastic supporters from Snods Edge who organised a very successful evening in celebration of the Queen's Jubilee by arranging a 3 course meal and live music, at the end of March. Everyone at the hospice would like to say a big, big thank you for the efforts made by this extremely committed group and to those people who bought into the event and helped to raise over £1113.  We hope they all enjoyed the night and look forward to working in partnership with them all again.

Three Horse Shoes Pub & Restaurant

Frequent visitors to our site will have read recently that the Three Horse Shoes at Maiden Law have adopted Willow Burn for the next year.  They will also have read that owners, Chris and Paul are holding a Restaurant Night in aid of the hospice on Monday 30th April.  Here is the very delicious sounding menu:

Bucks Fizz on arrival

Homemade vegetable soup with herb croutons and freshly baked bread roll

Steak & Ale Pie with  mashed potatoes and buttered carrots

Chocolate Fondant served with Chocolate Flake Ice Cream

OOOOOOOOOH!!! The cost is a very resonable £16.  Tickets/reservations from the pub on (01207) 520900, or the hospice on (01207) 523295.

Asda - Community Life

Community Fundraising Admistration Officer, Sue Fox, was delighted to be invited along to the launch of ASDA, Stanley's, Community Life Project, in  March. At the event, a host of balloons were released into a beautiful blue sky and a ribbon cut, to formally start the building of month long relationships with three community organisations - one of April's being Willow Burn Hospice.

The project works by way of customers being given a token for shopping at the store that they can then opt to drop into one of three bins representing the organisations being promoted that month.  The organisation with the most tokens at the end of the month then receives £200.  Customers can also vote for their favourite organisation to continue on to the next month, so please let everyone know to put their token in Willow Burn's bin and also to vote on the slip provided!

Shotley Bridge Victorian Spectacular

Many, many thanks to Shotley Bridge Village Trust and businesses within the village, members of which, recently handed over the proceeds of their Victorian Spectacular to Sue Fox, Community Fundraising Aministration Officer. The event did turn out to be truly spectacular for Willow Burn, not only for the promotion and support given to the hospice throughout the weekend activities as monies totalling over £1200 were handed over.

Again, sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to a fantastic event which has become a regular on the local events calendar.

Super Skydive For Willow Burn Hospice

Staff, volunteers and patients at Willow Burn would like to thank Stephen Dyer of Burnopfield, who did a skydive for us earlier in the year.  Stephen raised a fantastic amount of money, enough in fact, to buy a 52" flat screen television for the Day Care unit at the hospice. This has gone down extremely well, not just with the paitients, but in particular our therapy nurses who now have the room and are able to use DVD's to lead movement sessions to increase patients mobility. Thanks for being so adventurous Stephen. Your daring act has really paid off for the hospice!!

If you or your organisation or company are interested in adopting Willow Burn Hospice for any length of time (1 month to forever!) please contact Sue Fox, Community Fundraising Administration Officer on (01207) 523 295.

Why does Willow Burn encourage regular community organised events?

Willow Burn is a local Hospice based in Lanchester, County Durham.Willow Burn offers free inpatient and day hospice support to people living with a life limiting illness or perhaps families who need respite care for their relative.

As the only adult Hospice in Derwentside, the care we offer is vital to the families and patients coping with difficult conditions.

We receive less than 50% funding from the Government and we have to fundraise to make up the shortfall ourselves.

Since 1989, the community of Derwentside and Durham have generously supported Willow Burn in many extraordinary ways and we would like to express our thanks to our committed supporters.

Please do get involved in Willow Burn fundraising events and activities or donate now to Willow Burn.We offer a wide range of local fun events all year round which are great ways to socialise and give something back to your local community.
